Tender Care Animal Hospital is proud to serve Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin for everything pet-related. Our veterinary clinic is run by a licensed, experienced veterinarian caring for cats and dogs.

Our team is committed to educating our clients on how to keep their pets healthy year-round, with good nutrition, parasite prevention, wellness planning, and exercise. Tender Care Animal Hospital, stays on top of the latest advances in veterinary technology and above all, knows that all animals and pets need to be treated with loving care in every check-up, procedure, or surgery.

Meet our Team

Owner, Veterinarian

Dr. Jami Quick

When you joined the team: My husband and I bought Tender Care Animal Hospital in November of 2003.

Favorite part about my job: I love improving the human-pet bond. I enjoy cardiology, ophthalmology, and internal medicine.

Family: Husband, Ken. Son, Kyle and daughter, Kailee.

Pets: Three dogs – Bernie (Labrador Retriever Mix), Hank (Labrador Retriever Mix), and Cooper (Brittany Spaniel).
Four cats – Poppy, Waffles, Coconut, and Stone.
Chickens and two goats (Billy Bob and Charlene).

Hobbies: Watching the Milwaukee Brewers and Wisconsin Badgers, walking/hiking with the dogs and spending time on the river in the summer!

Schooling: Prevet at UW-River Falls. Graduated from UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine in 2000.

Veterinarian

Dr. Debbie Padilla-Kruk

When you joined the team: January of 2019

Favorite part about my job: Helping new owners create lasting bonds with their pets, and of course the clinic cats.

Family: Husband, Brian.
Son, Danny and daughter, Kayli.

Pets: One dog – Nala (Golden Retriever) who is the great granddaughter of one of my first clients ever when I started my career in 2000 and too many cats (but I want more!)

Hobbies: Reading, hiking with Nala or my kids, volunteering at Rivers and Bluff Animal Shelter and Sparta Cat Shelter.

Schooling: BS from Iowa State
MS from University of Nebraska
DVM from University of Wisconsin.

Veterinarian

Dr. Laura Johnson

When you joined the team: 2008

Favorite part about my job: Supporting the bond between pets and their humans and helping owners make good decisions about caring for their beloved animals.

Family: Husband, Neil Rettig. Daughter, Kara (husband Jared) Grandson, Leo.

Pets: Trained great horned owl Robbie and other trained raptors.

Hobbies: Raptor rehabilitation, gardening, hiking, reading, and traveling.

Schooling: Graduated in 1983 from Colorado State University (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine)

Certified Veterinary Technician

Shy Baker

When you joined the team: August of 2020

Favorite part about my job: Educating clients and performing dental cleanings.

Family: Husband, Mitch.
Son, Landon and daughter, Dawcin.

Pets: Two cats – Nolan and Daisy.
Two dogs – Axel (Great Dane/Pyrenees Mix), and my husbands dog, Harley (Chihuahua Mix)

Hobbies: Camping and making crafts!

Schooling: Bachelors Degree in Animal Science from UW-River Falls.
Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology from MATC.

Veterinary Technician

Carley Blake

When you joined the team: March of 2024

Favorite part about my job: The hands on work. Participating in dentals and surgeries. Seeing sick patients recover and go home to their families.

Family: Husband, Patrick. One daughter, Nellie.

Pets: Three dogs – Lilo (Australian Shepherd/Border Collie), Bucky (Fox Terrier) and Riggs (Australian Shepherd). Two cats – Theodore and Sullivan.

Hobbies: Hiking, spending time outdoors, boating, golfing, playing with the dogs.

Schooling: Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology from Globe University

Megan Cashman

Favorite part about my job: Educating clients about weight management and dental health in their pets.

Family: Husband, Jared
Daughter, Alayah

Pets: Two dogs – Cooper (Australian Shepherd) and Tilly (Chocolate Labrador Retriever).
Two cats – Milo and Theo.

Hobbies: Photography, camping, kayaking, walking with the dogs, and downhill skiing.

Schooling: Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology from Eastern Wyoming College in 2018

Shelley Hatlan

When you joined the team: September of 2021

Favorite part about my job: Educating clients, seeing sick animals thriving, and loving on all the animals.

Family: Son, Tucker

Pets: Six cats – Smokie, Cordelia Jane, King Tut, Sam, Brutus, and Eliana.

Hobbies: Reading and camping.

Schooling: Graduated from Animal Behavior College in 2017.

Darci Achenbach

Favorite part about my job: I love interacting with our clients and meeting new patients. There is never a bad day when they are filled with so many happy faces and so much love!

Family: Husband, Adam.

Pets: One dog – Millie (Yorkie)

Hobbies: Baking, shopping, spending time with my family, decorating, listening to music.

Favorite part about my job: I love building relationships with clients and patients as well as being a smiling face for the clinic!

Favorite part about my job: The clients and their pets and my co-workers!

Family: Boyfriend, Tyler

Pets: One dog - Ama (Australian Shepherd)

Hobbies: Spending time with family, being outdoors, jamming to music.

Schooling: Started the Veterinary Technician program at Kirkwood Community College and planning to finish this year!

When I joined the team: October 2021

Favorite part about my job: Seeing all the different animals and being able to play and cuddle them!

Family Information: Born in Buffalo, NY. Moved to Prairie du Chien in November of 2012. Married my husband Eric in 2018.

Pets: Four cats - Willoh, Dexter, Gus and Ajax

Hobbies: Hiking, swimming, cooking/baking, gaming and reading.

Schooling: Associates in Baking and Pastry Arts. Currently studying to become a veterinary assistant.

Kennel Manager/Attendant

Kailee Quick

Favorite part about my job: Working with different animals and learning all of their different personalities.

Family Information: Parents, Ken and Jami Quick (Owners of Tender Care Animal Hospital.) Older brother, Kyle.

Pets: Three dogs – Bernie (Labrador Retriever Mix), Hank (Labrador Retriever Mix), and Cooper (Brittany Spaniel).
Four cats – Poppy, Waffles, Coconut, and Stone.
Chickens and two goats (Billy Bob and Charlene).

Hobbies: Cooking, baking, reading, going for drives, going on the river and snuggling with my cat!

Schooling: Sophomore at UW Eau Claire for Elementary Education to become a teacher!

Favorite part about my job: Meeting new dogs!

Family Information: I am the youngest of four. From Dodgeville, WI.

Pets: Two dogs – Bentley and Leo
Two cats - Kelp and Bonzo

Hobbies: Hiking and playing sand volleyball.

Schooling: Entering senior year at UW Platteville majoring in animal science.

Allie Mussmann

When I joined the team: February 2024

Favorite part about my job: Working with all types of dogs.

Family Information: Parents, Jen and Andy Hakert.
Two sisters - Caitlen and Tesla

Pets: One dog - Bloo (Beagle/Aussie Mix)

Hobbies: Walking/running with my dog, camping.

Schooling: Currently attending NICC in Calmar, IA for Vet Tech and Animal Science.

Savanah Gordon

When I joined the team: July 2023

Favorite part about my job: Working with all the amazing people and all of the different dogs.

Family Information: My dad is currently in Scotland earning a degree in history and my mom is will me all the time!

Pets: One kitten - Luna

Hobbies: Horseback riding and spending time with friends.

Schooling: Highschool student.
